PARALEGAL ADVOCATE

 

 

The Connecticut Legal Rights Project, Inc. (CLRP) has an opening for a paralegal advocate.   

 

Excellent writing, computer and organizational skills required.  Familiarity with legal rights and procedures preferred.  Bilingual strongly preferred.  Must have own car and be willing to travel.  Specify salary requirements. 

 

CLRP is a private, non-profit agency based at Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, which represents low-income persons who have, or are perceived to have, psychiatric disabilities.  Most of our clients receive, or are eligible to receive, services from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) or its contractors.  Our advocacy work focuses on individual rights in the mental health system, such as consent to medication, the right to participate in treatment and discharge planning.  We also assist clients in commitment and conservatorship proceedings, as well as civil rights matters related to their recovery services, such as housing and employment.  CLRP works collaboratively with other agencies that provide advocacy for this population, such as the Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities, Connecticut Civil Liberties Union, and other legal services organizations.  EOE.
